The TimberSmart Processing solution streamlines the management of various further processing operations related to timber. These operations can vary widely and include processes such as timber treatment, optimisation/defecting, finger jointing/lamination, moulding production, and painting/priming.
The TimberSmart processing system commences with the creation of purchase/work orders to acquire necessary feedstock. Upon arrival, the incoming stock is logged into the plant against those orders. As the timber goes through prescribed processing operations, costs are accumulated and the system status of the timber changes.
Further, TimberSmart facilitates the identification and allocation of timber available for sale to specific customers, providing relevant details such as quantity, price, and delivery timing. Planners can utilise TimberSmart to plan loads, communicate load information to carriers, and generate invoices as needed. These invoices are conveniently created within TimberSmart and can be printed, emailed, or transmitted electronically via systems like TimberXchange.
Invoicing, utilising timber descriptors is carried out directly within TimberSmart. These invoices can be printed, emailed, or transmitted electronically via systems like TimberXchange

TimberSmart has several log inventory solutions for domestic primary processors ranging from those that record individual logs to those which record by the load. All systems are based on supply agreements and deliveries are recorded against these agreements.
The TimberSmart log inventory systems enable the tracking of daily processes such as log receipts, rejects and mill usage information. Extensive inquiries and reporting are available as well as data exports to other reporting and analysis tools, Periodic processes such as quality sampling, stocktaking and supplier invoice generation can also be undertaken.
Electronic integration with third-party applications, including Trimble and various weigh bridge suppliers, is feasible. This allows seamless data flow and collaboration between different software systems, enhancing efficiency and streamlining processes.
TCMS is a one-stop system which manages all processes associated with exporting logs, using containers or break bulk shipments. The system covers 5 key areas: supply logistics, yard management, commercial agreements, shipping, and financials & reporting.
Recognition of the creation of the timber pack(et) from the milling process is achieved at this stage. This can be a manual method such as a roundtable where timber in manually pulled into pack(et)s of the same product. Alternatively, it can be an automated method like a bin sorter where the timber is moved by conveyor to a bin of the same product.
The makeup of the pack(et) can be recorded manually via a tally sheet. It is entered into TS by a follow-up office function entering from the tally sheet. Alternatively, it can be created at source using a tablet-based packet create app. Bin sorters have their own software. Bin sorter software is integrated with TS application and data is transferred electronically from one to the other
Works orders provide the authority for processes or movements which occur on or to pack(et)s.
This point of reference is the basis for all operations and is a key component of TS.
Packet movements are a sub-set of works orders. Packet movements are regarded either as through processes – packet composition remain the same – or destroy and create processes – packets into the process are broken down and new packets created out of the process. TS handles both options.
Data entry can be managed in a variety of ways; manual, use of scanners for direct data entry. This area also makes extensive use of customised bar code labels for ease of data entry.
Purchase orders are self evident. In the case of TSL users, purchase orders (PO’s) for timber products are received and converted into sales orders (SO’s).This then provides the authority to dispatch, or create products (via works orders) to fulfil the SO. Alternatively, TSL users can send PO’s to purchase timber or other products that are not in stock.

Stocktake is an essential component of the TimberSmart inventory management system. Data can be entered into the stocktake module either manually or electronically.
There are several options for electronic entry from barcoded packet labels depending on the underlying database.
As the timing for dispatch approaches, the despatcher will assign staff to pick the order. Either finding products to match the order specification or finding specific packets; perhaps based on age. TS provides the ability to do this either by manual form (and later manual system entry) or direct entry via an app.
After stock is picked it is ready for load planning and dispatch. TS provides manual or app based methods to support this function.
Once dispatched TS creates draft invoices which are available for approval, confirmation, and sending by email, or EDI.
TS provides extensive reporting across all areas.

TimberSmart offers a development capabilityto create browser-based applications to meet customer requirements.
To indicate the possibilities, TimberSmarthas developed a suite of applications that seamlessly integrate with your TimberSmart SQL database. These apps enhance efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration across critical timber management processes. Let’s explore some of them:
The TimberSmart is an information management system developed for the timber industry by a team with a unique combination of timber industry knowledge, database development skills, project management and managing consulting skills.
TimberSmart has been specifically developed for the timber industry. It is a not standard manufacturing package that has been modified or compromised to fit the peculiarities of the timber industry.
The TimberSmart system is future proofed. It has been designed as a base system to which optional modules may be added.
The TimberSmart Production Scheduling module provides a tool to assist planner(s)to schedule production demand across work centers and in specific time slots.
- TPS is a standalone system which stands independent of TS
- Works order data is automatically imported to the TPS system from TS database
- Production Planner does initial allocation of processes within works orders to work centers
- TPS provides calendar view of the Production schedule together with feedback on work center utilisation
- Production planner able to revert to works order data array to fine tune the schedule
Provides tabular representation of each work center utilisation by work week
The TimberSmart Packet Recorder is a valuable addition to the TimberSmart Inventory Management system. It allows the creation, deletion or GCS change of a packet anywhere in the yard- data automation. If a label printer is connected then customised bar-coded labels are then printed immediately. Automatic or batch update to the TimberSmart inventory Management system then ensures physical packet labels will match information held in the stock system. Packet recorder will work with connected terminals, touch screens and PLC’s in the yard. Additional Handheld products are also available. Packet recorder reduces data entry lag time, improves accuracy and gives data ownership to work centres.
Drone stocktake is currently under development as part of TimberSmart’s ongoing technical innovation programme. It combines recent advances in drone technology with Timbersmart software which isolates barcodes in the video frames, transcodes them, and reads the barcode numbers into a database. This is similar to current handheld scanning, the difference in this case is that the scanner(drone) can be removed from the person doing the scanning. Future enhancements in this space include deployment on smaller and quieter drones, and development of drone-based RFID tag/label scanning.
Benefits of this approach are evident in situations where there are safety concerns e.g. pack stability, or where there are issues with height. An associated advantage of this approach is that in addition to recording barcodes numbers, an image of the actual label can be recorded. This could be beneficial for auditing purposes.
TimberSmart has developed a simple CRM function that integrates with the TS1 system. It is designed for users who require CRM functionality but want to avoid the expenses associated with integrating into a more comprehensive cloud-based system.
Despite lacking certain features found in some cloud-based systems, the TS system’s tight connection with the underlying TimberSmart data more than makes up for that in terms of benefits.
Some of these benefits include

The stick scanner is an intermediate scanning solution which sits between conventional scanners and drone scanners. It essentially consists of a scanner and integrated camera located at the top of a pole with connection to the user app on a phone at the bottom of the pole. The camera enables scanner navigation when the pack(et) labels cannot be seen from the ground. The scanner output can be integrated with the TimberSmart inventory system.
